New hybrid ro-ro ships ordered for Stena Line

On behalf of Stena Line, Stena RoRo has designed and ordered two hybrid cargo ships from the Chinese shipyard CMI Jinling in Weihai. The ships can be powered by methanol or conventional fuel and have been developed in line with future environmental requirements, for example by using batteries as a future means of propulsion. Major emphasis has been placed on optimizing the cargo capacity, which has been increased by 80%.

World’s largest civilian hospital ship in port in Senegal

On behalf of the charity Mercy Ships, Stena RoRo has been responsible for the construction of the Global Mercy, the world's largest civilian hospital ship. The ship has now been ceremoniously inaugurated in Dakar, Senegal. While the celebrations were still underway, the crew had already begun with the ship's first mission in strengthening African healthcare.

Stena RoRo delivers extended E-Flexer RoPax to Stena Line

On May 24, Stena RoRo delivered the first of two ordered extended E-Flexer ferries to Stena Line. She is the Stena Estelle and will operate on the Karlskrona – Gdynia line. Like all ships in the E-Flexer series, the new ferry is tailored to the customer's specific preferences and needs.

Stena RoRo assisting MARAD in purchase of two vessels for Ready Reserve Force (RRF)

MARAD (United States Maritime Administration) has signed a contract for the purchase of two vessels. Crowley serves as vessel acquisition manager (responsible for contract implementation), and Stena RoRo is part of Crowley's project team on the shipping and logistics company's behalf for MARAD. Stena RoRo is participating as market experts and brokers, as well as providing support in contract drafting.

Stena RoRo has built the world’s largest civilian hospital ship – the Global Mercy is now calling Rotterdam

From February 28 to March 14, the world's largest hospital ship, the Global Mercy, will be in Rotterdam. A momentous event for Stena RoRo who, on behalf of the charity Mercy Ships, has been the project manager for the ship's construction since 2013. During her weeks in Rotterdam, the newly built ship will be open to visitors. Private individuals, organizations, partners, donors, volunteers and the media are welcome to visit the ship while she is being outfitted in Rotterdam for its vital mission in West Africa.

Stena RoRo’s E-Flexer Salamanca delivered to Brittany Ferries – Introducing LNG dual fuel operation

The Salamanca, the second of five ships in the E-Flexer class ordered by Stena RoRo for Brittany Ferries was delivered on November 30. The vessel is the sixth E-Flexer of twelve ordered from the Chinese shipyard CMI Jinling (Weihai). The Salamanca will be chartered by Brittany Ferries on a long-term basis and has been especially adapted to the needs of the French ferry company.

Proman and Stena jointly develop methanol as the pathway to sustainable shipping

The global shipping industry is responsible for ~2.9% of global greenhouse gas emissions, which equals almost 1 billion metric tons of CO2 each year. Unchecked, emissions could increase by as much as 130% from 2008 levels by 2050. Transitioning to low-carbon fuels will be essential to secure the long-term future of the industry and meet International Maritime Organisation (IMO) emissions reduction targets for 2030 and 2050, but still-developing technologies and the long lifetime of existing vessels makes this challenge even bigger.

Crowley & Stena RoRo to assist United States Maritime Administration (MARAD) in acquiring vessels for their Ready Reserve Force (RRF)

Crowley Maritime Corporation’s Solutions business unit has been awarded a multi-year contract for Vessel Acquisition Management (VAM) by the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD). Stena RoRo is included in Crowley’s project team, together with Serco and LCE (Life Cycle Engineering).

Stena RoRo has placed orders for the construction of new E-Flexer ships numbered 11 and 12

Stena RoRo has ordered two new ships from the Chinese shipyard CMI Jinling (Weihai). These are the 11th and 12th Stena E-Flexer vessels in the RoPax class developed by Stena RoRo and delivery is slated for 2024 and 2025. At the same time, long-term charter contracts have been signed with the French ferry company Brittany Ferries. The ships will operate between Portsmouth in the UK and Quistreham (Caen) and St. Malo in France, respectively, two of Brittany Ferries' primary routes.

Stena RoRo orders its tenth E-Flexer RoPax ferry

Stena RoRo is pleased to have executed a new charter agreement with Marine Atlantic, a Canadian federal Crown corporation. As a result, Stena has ordered its tenth E-Flexer vessel from the CMI Jinling (Weihai) shipyard. The ship, when delivered, will run in eastern Canada between Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. Delivery from the shipyard is expected during 2024.

Stena RoRo has delivered the world’s largest civilian hospital vessel, the Global Mercy™ for Mercy Ships

After a ceremony at the shipyard in China, the world's largest civilian hospital ship, the Global Mercy, was delivered to the charity organization Mercy Ships. Stena RoRo has been working with the global project since 2013. The maiden voyage is to Europe where the Global Mercy will be further outfitted before continuing to Senegal for her first contribution to Mercy Ship's important work in providing life-changing healthcare to the world's poorest.

Stena RoRo has now taken delivery of the lengthened vessel Stena Scandica from the Turkish shipyard

In August 2020, Stena RoRo began a unique conversion of the RoPax vessel Stena Scandica (formerly the Stena Lagan) and has been responsible for design and project execution. The ship was split in half and a new 36-meter-long mid-section inserted. As a result, cargo capacity has been increased by 30 percent. Completion of the conversion was marked with a ceremony at the shipyard in Tuzla, outside Istanbul. After a 10-day maiden voyage, the Stena Scandica will enter service at the beginning of July on Stena Line's route between Nynäshamn and Ventspils in Latvia.
